It is located in the valley of the same name, surrounded by a range of moderately high mountains: Rtanj to the north (1560 m), Ozren to the south (1174 m), Devica to the southeast (1116 m), Slemen (1099 m) and Krstatac (1069 m) to the east, and Bukovik (894 m) and Rožanj (897 m) to the west. The Moravica River flows through Sokobanja and forms Lake Bovan on the western side of the valley. It is 230 km from Belgrade and 60 km from Niš and the Niš Airport.
